CGS uses the Singapore Math Program beginning in kindergarten and continuing through sixth grade. This is an explicit and systematic program with a proven track record that emphasizes mental math, understanding relationships, and word problems. Special attention is given to carefully reading and comprehending the nuances of language in word problems.
In grades 7 and 8, CGS uses the New Elementary Mathematics (NEM) Program to provide instruction in algebra and geometry. NEM is a challenging math series with a proven international track record. Emphasis is placed on the development of better understanding of mathematical concepts and their applications, as well as on proficiency in problem solving, mathematical reasoning and higher order thinking. Beginning in second grade, children at CGS participate in an annual international math competition.
Our preschool program introduces children to pre-math concepts through play and hands-on experiences, including puzzles, block construction, sorting, categorizing, patterning and games that work on 1-to-1 correspondence, number sense, comparisons and measurement.
