Houses & Buildings Project
Project Booklet (PDF)
In January 2006, we asked our 3-year old Preschool children to bring in a photo of their home and tell us about it. Over time, the discussion went from their homes to the homes of the Three Little Pigs, to igloos, towers and skyscrapers. Following the children's interest, we had the makings of a long term project. Over the course of the project, many CGS Preschool curriculum goals were addressed.
Components of the Project
- Read stories and examined books and illustrations about houses and buildings
- Built houses out of straw, wood and bricks
- Labled rooms in the pig's "brick" house they had made based on their own home
- Took walks in the school neighborhood to sketch buildings
- Constructed igloos
- Built individual skyscrapers
- Took dictation of the children's descriptions of their creations
- Visited the John Hancock Tower
- Constructed the Sears Tower collaboratively
